What's the Questions page?

Each question included on the Questions page was sent to us by a real client and is accompanied by the actual answer they received from our experts. What happens when I Ask an Expert?

PREMIUM and PROFESSIONAL members have access to our Ask an Expert service through their My Account page. After submitting the online form, please allow two business days for an expert to respond. Responses will be sent directly to the email address you provide within the form. Once you receive your reply you may respond directly to the email with any follow-up questions you may have, or choose to fill out a new form. Since your membership lasts for one month, you may ask as many questions as you like within that time frame.

Each answer we provide determines if your situation falls into one of three categories:

 

    • If you likely DO have a case

      According to the information you provided, it is likely that your situation is protected under Federal Wage & Hour Law. Here is what you can expect to receive in our answer:

      1. An explanation of why your situation is protected under federal law, and how your employer may be violating your rights.
      2. A list of the specific laws/regulations that apply to your situation.
      3. An explanation of the legal courses of action available to you that you may choose to take.
    • If you likely DO NOT have a case

      According to the information you provided, our experts have determined that your rights under Federal Wage & Hour Law are NOT being violated. Here is what you can expect to receive in our answer:

      1. An explanation of why your situation is perfectly legal according to federal law.
      2. A list of any recommendations we have that may apply to your situation. While we are experts in federal law, sometimes it is possible that there may be a violation of state law that you can choose to look into and pursue. If we think this is the case, we will provide you with any resources or information we know of that can help you do this.
  • If more information is needed

    According to the information you provided, we are unable to determine if you are protected by Federal Wage & Hour Law. This may happen if crucial information is missing and our experts require more details from you in order to provide an accurate explanation of your situation pertaining to the law. If this is the case, you may reply to our response with the missing information needed to help our experts make an accurate determination.

How does a phone consultation work?

Our phone consultation service gives you the opportunity to speak directly with an expert regarding issues and/or questions you have about Federal Wage & Hour Law. You will be able to discuss your concerns, and receive a clear explanation in real-time.

All phone consultations must be scheduled through the website. PROFESSIONAL members are able to fill out a form including your contact information and employment history that one of our site experts will use to get in touch with you. This form provides the critical information our experts need before they contact you, and helps maximize time during the consultation to ensure that all of your information needs are met. We ask that you fill out the form completely and accurately to help us assist you to the best of our ability.

 

Policies

One phone consultation is allowed each month your PROFESSIONAL membership is active.

Generally, phone consultations are limited to 15 minutes. In our experience, most questions can be answered within this amount of time or less. The Labor Board may choose to extend the length of a phone call at their discretion, but are not required to do so.

Phone consultations may be terminated at any time at the discretion of The Labor Board. Reasons for this may include, but are not limited to: poor call quality, disrupted phone service (dropped calls), abusive language, off-topic questions, etc.

The Labor Board also reserves the right to cancel a scheduled or requested phone consultation, or refuse to return a call for the following reasons: multiple failed attempts to contact you, voicemail not working, expired membership, etc.

 

What happens if I miss a phone call?

The Labor Board will make several attempts to call you, so don’t worry if you miss our call the first time around. We will leave a voicemail and make another attempt to contact you at a later time/date. If you choose to return our call after missing it, simply leave us a voicemail with your name, phone number, and reason for calling – in the case that we are unable to answer your call. We look forward to speaking with you and will get back to you as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience.

What forms of payment do you accept?
The Labor Board uses PayPal to handle all online transactions. PayPal accepts all major debit and credit cards to make payments, including Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express. PayPal also allows you to easily make a payment with your PayPal account.

Is my payment information secure?
YES. The Labor Board uses PayPal to handle all online transactions. PayPal has their own set of rigid safety and security protocols including buyer protection, chargebacks, and 24/7 transaction monitoring.

When you pay with PayPal, your financial information is NEVER shared with the seller (The Labor Board), and you can pay using only your email address and password. In other words, our website NEVER collects, saves or has access to your payment information, for your protection.

Each question can be viewed for free, but answers can only be seen by members with an active account. If you find a question that you’d like to view the answer to, sign up for an ON THE GO plan or higher, and enjoy instant access to all answers on the Questions page. There is no monthly subscription required for this plan, just a one-time payment.

*Memberships with the ON THE GO plan automatically expire after one year.

 

PREMIUM

This is the best plan for people seeking custom answers from our experts regarding their personal questions about employment and federal wage & hour law.

We understand that not every question is the same, and a custom response from one of our experts can give you the peace of mind you’re looking for. If you don’t find a question that pertains to you on the Questions page, your best bet is to sign up for our PREMIUM plan. This gives you extended access to our Ask an Expert service where you can send us a message with the details of your employment history and explanation of your question.

Since this membership lasts for one month, you are not limited to the amount of messages you can send us within that time frame. How do I create a new membership account?

Thank you for your interest in joining The Labor Board! Below are 3 simple steps to create your account and get started:

  1. Review our membership levels and select a level.
  2. You will be taken to a “Membership Checkout” page. This page asks you to provide basic profile information, including your name, desired username, email address, a password.
  3. You will also be asked to enter payment information in order to complete your membership subscription. Your access will not be confirmed until a successful subscription payment has been received.
Does my membership plan ever expire?

Our ON THE GO plan automatically expires after 1 year. There is no need to cancel your account for this plan as it is meant for one-time access.

Our PREMIUM and PROFESSIONAL membership plans DO NOT automatically expire.

To end your membership with The Labor Board and avoid recurring payments, you must cancel your membership plan.

Can I change my membership plan?

YES! If you would like to change your membership level to gain access to additional services we offer, simply follow the instructions below, or easily change your membership level here. These instructions also apply if you are interested in downgrading your membership level.

  1. Log in to your membership account.
  2. From your My Account page, click the toggle icon at the bottom of the page to “View Account Info”
  3. Under “My Memberships”, click the link to “Change” your membership level.
  4. The following screen will show you an overview of our available membership levels with links to upgrade or downgrade.
  5. After you select a new membership level, you will be directed to a checkout page in order to complete your membership subscription.
  6. Your previous subscription payment will be cancelled and a new subscription payment will be created. Your increased or decreased access will not be confirmed until a successful subscription payment has been received for your new membership level.

How do I cancel my membership plan?

We are sorry that you are choosing to cancel your membership with us. Below are the steps you need to cancel your account:

  1. Log in to your membership account.
  2. From your My Account page, click the toggle icon at the bottom of the page to “View Account Info”
  3. Under “My Memberships”, click the link to “Cancel”
